About JJ Health and Wellbeing

My Story

Before I became a sleep specialist, I was someone who struggled with sleep myself.

For years, I lived in a cycle of exhaustion — daily naps, poor routines, relying on caffeine just to get through the day. I planned everything around my fatigue: when I might crash, how I’d cope, whether I’d have enough energy to function. Burnout and low energy were constant companions, and I didn’t realise how much they were shaping my life.

Everything changed when I finally took sleep seriously. Understanding my own patterns and making small, sustainable changes transformed how I felt. I stopped needing to plan my day around naps. I had the energy to do what I wanted. I felt clearer, more present, and more like myself again.

That shift changed my life — and it’s the reason I’m so passionate about helping others find the same relief.

My Professional Background

I’m Jamie, a registered occupational therapist specialising in CBT‑I (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia). My clinical work focuses on sleep, fatigue, burnout, and daily functioning — all the areas I once struggled with myself.

I bring together evidence‑based CBT‑I strategies with a practical, real‑life understanding of how sleep affects everything you do.

My Approach

My approach is gentle, collaborative, and grounded in your everyday life. I take time to understand what’s happening with your sleep, what matters to you, and what needs to shift so you can move toward deeper, more restorative rest.

Together, we focus on small, meaningful changes that fit your routines, responsibilities, and motivations — not rigid rules or unrealistic expectations.

Why I Do This

JJ Health & Wellbeing is built on compassion, clarity, and the belief that better sleep can change everything.

I know what it feels like to be exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsure where to start. And I know how powerful it is when sleep finally begins to improve. My goal is to support you through that process, one manageable step at a time, so you can feel rested, capable, and more like yourself again.

What is CBT-I?

CBT‑I (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia) is the recommended first‑line treatment for persistent insomnia in the UK. According to NICE guidelines, CBT‑I should be offered before sleep medication for adults with long‑term sleep difficulties, because it has the strongest evidence for improving sleep in a safe, sustainable way.

The NHS also recognises CBT‑I as the most effective treatment for chronic insomnia, with research showing success rates of around 70%. Many people begin to notice improvements in both sleep quality and daytime functioning within a few weeks.

CBT‑I works by helping you understand your sleep patterns, reduce habits that unintentionally keep insomnia going, and build healthier routines that support deeper, more restorative rest. It’s structured, practical, and tailored to your life — not a set of rigid rules or quick fixes.

The approach is recommended by UK sleep specialists, including the British Sleep Society, and is widely used across NHS sleep services. It focuses on small, meaningful changes that create long‑lasting improvements, rather than relying on medication or short‑term strategies.

What is the REST programme?

The REST Programme is an evidence‑based approach to improving long‑term sleep difficulties, developed by Sleep Unlimited, a UK organisation specialising in insomnia treatment and training. REST is built on the core principles of CBT‑I, but expands the model to include additional behavioural and lifestyle strategies that support more sustainable change.

REST is used widely across UK services and training programmes, and research shows that while CBT‑I alone has success rates of around 70%, the REST Programme can increase this to around 80%. It offers a structured, step‑by‑step framework that helps people understand their sleep patterns, reduce unhelpful habits, and build healthier routines that support deeper, more restorative rest.

As a practitioner trained by Sleep Unlimited, I integrate the REST Programme into my work to provide a clear, practical pathway through sleep recovery. It’s a flexible, compassionate approach that focuses on small, meaningful changes — helping you move toward better sleep in a way that feels manageable and grounded in everyday life.

Who I’m Not Able to Support

To make sure you receive the right type of care, there are some situations where CBT‑I or online support may not be suitable. I’m not able to offer treatment if you are:

  • experiencing untreated or unstable mental health conditions that require specialist care
  • living with a sleep disorder that needs medical investigation (such as suspected sleep apnoea, restless legs syndrome, or narcolepsy)
  • currently misusing substances that significantly affect sleep
  • under 18 years old
  • seeking crisis or emergency support
